Purpose in Suffering

Love For Myanmar Ministries Update

“Showing no concern for the uncertainties that lie ahead is the secret of walking with Jesus.” Oswald Chambers

Helplessly witnessing the never-ending suffering of the Myanmar people, I periodically puzzle over the alignment of such suffering with the God of love. Much of my feelings about God begin to turn from awe to disappointment.

I have tried abandoning asking God questions. I have tried hiding the questions in my heart. I have tried distracting my thoughts with other interests. I eventually concluded that my questions were actually being held in the strong and loving hands of God. He has chosen a time for me to learn the truth to my questions about the Myanmar people’s relentless suffering.

What astonishes me is soon after I stop questioning, disapproving or blaming Him, there comes a beautiful, commanding clarity of spiritual direction. From that point, every decision becomes a hope which gradually lessens the need for the question.

There is something spectacularly transformative when God guides you through your questions, and the realities of His wisdom and your fragility are unveiled. Waiting, especially during times of suffering, is challenging, painful, and frustrating. But, it is not about losing hope. It is about leaning on God.

God stamps something of Himself on those souls willing to believe in the presence of purpose in suffering.

Please pray that God lights the path and opens the eyes of our colleagues in Myanmar to the dangers where they are each day. As they go forward sharing the Gospel, please ask that God grant each of them the faith, wisdom and strength to know how best to deal with their respective dangerous situations.
