Spiritual Courage

Love For Myanmar Ministries Update

Christ Centered, Servant Hearted, Myanmar Focused

“Some want to live within the sound of a church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.” C.T. Studd

Has the tolerance for Christianity peaked in America? Has the passion for Christianity among its followers dulled? Why are the values of Christianity considered controversial by so many?

It seems as if Christianity has drifted from relevance; overpowered by appetites for more personal control. Christians, rather than relying on the Divinely created Holy Spirit placed within us, are trying to bully the Holy Spirit into redirecting its guiding light more towards our preferences.

Christianity doesn’t seem to be a resource for daily discernment but rather a habitual crutch for when our decisions go wayward. There isn’t a shortage of intelligence among us but rather a shortage of spiritual courage. Spiritual courage provides the will to follow the Holy Spirit’s guiding light regardless of our own wishes. However, we seem more interested in pursuing the path of least risk. We are especially uncomfortable with God’s silence and our impatience pressures us into decisions whose risk far exceeds that of waiting for God’s direction.

In the process, and perhaps unintentionally, we are devaluing our Christianity and diluting our witness. If we are personally unwilling to surrender to God’s wisdom, why should we expect anyone to take our words and actions as anything but shallow advice.

Those who are willing to live a life surrendered to God are rewarded with a focused calling which fills the holes in their lives into a more Christ-like shape for His glory. Christians should be messengers of love who hopefully awaken the hearts and inspire the spirits of those lives they touch.

It could be your spiritual courage that swings the gate open for someone to pursue a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Please pray
that God will stem the tide of fear among the Myanmar Christians showing them the way He wants them to go in His Kingdom building in their country, and grants them the courage to remain faithful wherever that may lead them, His eyes to see the need, His ears to hear the call, and His spirit to willingly and humbly serve.

Special note: August 9 will be the birth date of Adoniram Judson who spent almost forty years in Burma, which since 1989 is the nation of Myanmar. During his ministry, he helped lead hundreds of Burmese and people from the Karen tribe to saving faith in Jesus Christ, translated the Bible and other Christian writings into two different languages, wrote numerous booklets and tracts on a variety of theological topics, and encouraged Baptists in America to unite for the sake of global missions. If you have an interest in learning about extraordinary people and their perseverance in the face of unimaginable challenges, I encourage you to read about Adoniram Judson.
